The Sr. Credit Manager is responsible for overseeing the credit, collections & accounts receivable function, including the staff, policies & processes for the company’s legal entities (US & Canada with some LatAm).
This role manages and sets direction for the Credit/AR staff & function with the objective of:
• Developing risk management & modeling solutions to support the granting of credit & terms.
• Supporting sales and profitability growth through effective customer account management, while mitigating risk.
• Maximizing cash collections as measured by DSO and other KPIs.
• Monitor & manage the company’s credit portfolio through effective and consistent utilization of credit rating and credit monitoring tools & analytics.
• Focusing AR & collection activities on high value/ high return activities thru effective reporting and metrics.
• Promoting positive customer relationships and service.
• Representing the Credit & Finance function in cross functional teams.
• Training, developing and coaching staff and promoting a culture of professional development.
This role functions in a highly inter-dependent, fast-paced global environment where a strong understanding of the company’s order to cash functions and systems; as well as strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills are required.
What would I be doing?
Credit & Accounts Receivable Profile
$1B in annual sales made up of over 3,000 individual customers, mostly large and mid-size distributors, of which 400+ customers have over $100K sales/year in the Industrial, LifeScience & Healthcare industries. This also includes 100+ multi- million dollar accounts that make up the majority of the total business.
This position overseas the credit, collections & AR of more than half of the company’s total worldwide sales, making it a key position to drive growth, profitability & cash flow globally. The position is focused mostly on US & Canadian operations with some LAC & a few acquisition entities in specialized markets.
Primary business model is B2B, focused on distribution channels, and with an emerging ecommerce platform aimed at capturing direct sales.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Responsible for defining credit & receivable goals and supporting working capital improvements including Corporate & Global reporting on key metrics such as DSO & ECL.
• Advises Director & Senior Management including CFO & CEO in developing policies and procedures to be used in investigating, granting and controlling credit and in collecting accounts due.
• Utilizes sound financial metrics and analytical tools to determine amount of credit to be extended and terms to be issued and provide financial analysis of new or existing customers.
• Recommends reserves necessary to provide against bad debts based on customer and industry trends and profile.
• Develops and presents actionable AR/Collections reporting and dashboards including month end financial reports to senior management.
• Work closely with sales personnel in negotiating credit extensions, payment terms and promotional opportunities including unique customer circumstances.
• Provides insights to trends, risk & opportunities including staying current on industry and economic conditions.
• Leads the Credit function on cross functional teams including Customer Service, Rebates, Sales, Accounting and Finance, Warehouse and Logistics functions to define and improve workflows as they pertain to timely and accurate customer account management.
• Plays a lead role in ERP AR system management, enhancements, upgrades and acquisition integrations.
• Ad hoc reports & requests as needed.
What would make me qualified?
Education
• Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
Job Experience
• Minimum 10 years of experience in credit management and collections, preferably in a mid to large size corporate and global environment.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel & Power BI).
• Experienced with ERP systems (Order to Cash, AR, Trade Management, Customer Master modules).
• Experienced in deductions management and dispute resolution.
• Exposure to rebates management a plus.
